Whereas, more than one million American servicemembers, frontline civilians, intelligence community staff, and aid workers served the interests of the United States on the ground in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021

Whereas, the final US forces withdrew from Kabul on August 31, 2021, leaving behind thousands of allies who believed in the idea of America, changed their lives to stand with us, and are now at risk;

Whereas, veterans, frontline civilians, and a cross-section of American volunteers stood up to demand we meet our commitments to Afghans who stood with us over our twenty-year conflict;

Whereas, many of the volunteer groups coalesced under the #AfghanEvac moniker and have been working hand-in-hand with government to continue relocations of our allies;

Whereas, there is precedent for adjustment of status from every conflict the United States of America has ended;

Whereas, honoring our commitments to wartime allies who stand with us during conflict is a national security imperative;

Whereas, the bipartisan Afghan Adjustment Act was introduced in both the US House of Representatives and the US Senate in August 2022;

Whereas, the Afghan Adjustment Act is supported by a bipartisan group of legislators representing the full American experience but did not pass in the 117th Congress;

Whereas, the 118th Congress has yet to introduce the Afghan Adjustment Act;

Whereas, government bodies across the nation and the world must recognize the enormity of this moment and the gravity of the promises made by more than one million Americans who deployed in support of our mission in Afghanistan;

Whereas, more than 76% of Americans believe we have an obligation to aid Afghan allies in their relocation;

Therefore be it resolved that the <legislative body> calls upon the 118th U.S. Congress to immediately introduce and pass the bipartisan Afghan Adjustment Act.
