The Afghanistan TPS Act (H.R. 9899) designates Afghanistan for Temporary Protected Status through July 1, 2029. TPS is a bridge, not a path to citizenship, for people who are already here, already vetted, and already working in American communities.

Shields vetted Afghan allies from deportation to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, and restores their work authorization.
Fast and accountable
Requires DHS to adjudicate applications within 90 days, after full biometric and national-security vetting.

The House bill, H.R. 9899, was introduced July 23, 2026, and the Senate companion, S. 5308, on August 6, 2026.
