The Promise Walk · Veterans Day · Wednesday, November 11, 2026 · Washington, D.C.
American and Afghan. One promise.
On Veterans Day, veterans, Afghan allies, families, and friends will walk together from the Lincoln Memorial to the U.S. Capitol with one message for Congress: keep the promise.
About two miles · 7:30 a.m. check-in
Why we walk
The short road, and the long one.
The road from the Lincoln Memorial to the Capitol is a short one. The road Afghan allies and the Americans who served beside them have walked together is much longer. It runs through twenty years of shared service, the summer of 2021, and every year of waiting since.
Afghans our government vetted and brought here are now losing their protections. We are walking to remind Congress that the promise we made them is still ours to keep, and to deliver a letter asking members to keep it.
“To care for him who shall have borne the battle”
Abraham Lincoln, Second Inaugural Address, 1865. We start at his memorial for a reason.

What people ask us.
Who can walk?
Everyone. Veterans, Afghan allies and their families, frontline civilians, faith communities, and anyone who believes America should keep its word.
Do I have to be part of the fly-in?
No. The walk is open to everyone. If you want to meet with your members of Congress on November 9 and 10 too, sign up at afghanevac.org/tps-fly-in.
Can I bring my family?
Yes. Children are welcome. Tell us how many people are coming on the form.
What should I wear?
Comfortable shoes and layers. If you have a Promise Walk or TPS shirt, wear it.
I'm an Afghan ally. Is it safe for me to take part?
You decide how visible to be. The form asks whether we may use photos of you and your name, and we honor your answer in every photo, post, and press contact. If you have questions about your own case, talk to an immigration attorney first.
Does AfghanEvac cover travel or lodging?
No. Participation is self-funded. Questions? Email policy@afghanevac.org.
